Each mitten combines a shaped hand and thumb with a contrasting cuff, and the blocks turn in different directions around the center. Narrow fabric borders separate the panel, mittens and outer border. Wendy Sheppard designed this intermediate quilt with Chilly Friends fabrics by Diane Labombarbe, and the finished project measures 65 by 73 inches.

- Center and cut the printed panel, then prepare the fabric squares, rectangles and strips for the mitten blocks and borders.
- Shape the mitten hands and thumbs with corner triangles, join their sections, and add cuffs and background strips.
- Attach the first narrow borders to the panel, then arrange the mitten blocks into side columns and top and bottom rows.
- Add the remaining borders in sequence, layer the quilt, baste and quilt, then finish with binding.
