Description:

American Sampler is an intermediate quilt designed by Marsha Evans Moore featuring Perfect Points II fabrics. Five fussy-cut print squares are set diagonally with printed triangles, narrow sashing and small contrasting squares. Multiple borders alternate narrow framing with wider fussy-cut prints to complete the 51-inch-square quilt. The pattern provides dimensions for clear templates used to center the printed designs, and its cutting chart includes fat-quarter quantities for the five center-square fabrics.

American Sampler Free Quilt Pattern by Marsha Evans Moore quilt pattern summary

  1. Make the square and triangle templates from clear plastic template material. Use them to center and fussy cut the printed designs, then prepare the sashing and border pieces.
  2. Lay out the five print squares and the large and small B triangles in diagonal rows. Piece the block rows and the intervening sashing rows, then join them with the seams matched.
  3. Add the border rounds in the specified I, E, I, B, K and H sequence, attaching side strips before the top and bottom strips and including corner squares where shown.
  4. Layer the top, batting and backing, baste and quilt as desired. Bind with J strips.
