Description:

Cheshire Cats Flake is a 74 x 86 inch quilt designed by Stacey Day, featuring the Curiouser and Curiouser collection by Tula Pink. Thirty 10 inch cat blocks, each built from pieced ears, face and body units with a print rectangle fussy cut when the print allows, are set in six rows of five on a Fairy Flakes Paper background with sashing between the blocks and rows. A Cheshire inner border, a 6pm Somewhere outer border and Tent Stripe Iris bias binding finish this confident-beginner quilt.

Cheshire Cats Flake Free Quilt Pattern by Stacey Day quilt pattern summary

  1. Cut the main and accent fabric pieces, fussy cutting the 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles when the print allows, the Fabric Z background and sashing, the Fabric T and S border strips and Fabric WW bias binding.
  2. Sew accent squares diagonally to the ends of Fabric Z rectangles for the Ears Units, sew an accent rectangle between two main rectangles for each Face Unit, and join accent and main strips into Body Units.
  3. Add a Fabric Z corner to the top right of the odd Body Units and the top left of the even ones, then join the Ears, Face and Body units with the main and Fabric Z rectangles into 10-1/2" Odd and Even Cat Blocks.
  4. Lay out the blocks in six rows of five, sew each row with Fabric Z sashing between and at both ends, and join the rows with sashing rows between, above and below.
  5. Measure and add the Fabric T inner borders and then the Fabric S outer borders.
  6. Layer and quilt, then bind with the bias binding, mitering the corners.
