Description:

City Chic sets small fabric squares in diagonal rows, using their placement and the direction of striped prints to build the quilt center. Two borders frame the arrangement, with a narrow inner band followed by a wider outer print. Lucy A. Fazely designed this advanced-beginner quilt with New Traditional fabrics by Lillian August. The finished project measures 53 1/4 by 64 1/2 inches, and the squares finish at four inches within the on-point layout.

City Chic Free Quilt Pattern by Lucy A. Fazely quilt pattern summary

  1. Cut the fabric squares and separate the strips for the inner border, outer border and binding. Keep the print groups labeled.
  2. Arrange the squares in nineteen diagonal rows, checking stripe direction against the layout. Sew the squares into rows and join the rows with alternating seam directions.
  3. Trim the center as shown and secure the bias edges with a line of basting. Add the narrow inner border, followed by the wider outer border.
  4. Prepare the binding and backing, layer and quilt the top, then trim the extra layers and finish the binding by hand or machine.
