Description:

Fanny's Windmill is a 58.5-inch square quilt featuring the Elm Cottage collection. Heidi Pridemore's pattern combines red centers with blue and khaki piecing against a tan background. Triangle, square and shaped template pieces form blocks that turn in different directions across the quilt. The layout uses six rows of six blocks, with four block arrangements controlling the placement of the contrasting fabrics. Fat quarters supply the assorted prints, alongside background, backing and binding yardage.

  1. Prepare the three templates and cut the background, print and center pieces. Keep the blue and khaki pieces grouped for the different block arrangements.
  2. Join the triangle pairs, then add the squares and rectangles to build the component units. Assemble the red centers with their surrounding background pieces.
  3. Arrange the component units in the four block layouts, turning them as shown. Sew the blocks into six rows of six, then join the rows to complete the top.
  4. Layer the top with batting and backing and quilt it. Join the binding strips, fold the binding and sew it around the quilt edges.
