Uh oh, a spool is unraveling! Refresh and try again.
Description:

First Light alternates twelve star blocks with twenty Log Cabin blocks in an on-point quilt setting. Diane Nagle designed the intermediate 66 by 80 inch quilt with Lexington fabrics by Julie Hendricksen. The Log Cabin blocks build outward through four rounds, with small contrasting squares at the strip ends. The blocks keep a consistent orientation through eight diagonal rows, and a narrow inner border and wider outer print border complete the arrangement.

First Light Free Quilt Pattern by Diane Nagle quilt pattern summary

  1. Cut and label the pieces by block type. Sew triangles into flying-geese units and combine them with the center and corner squares to make twelve star blocks.
  2. Build the Log Cabin blocks outward from their center squares through four rounds. Add the small contrasting squares to the specified strip ends and square each completed block.
  3. Alternate the blocks in eight diagonal rows with the side and corner setting triangles, keeping the Log Cabin orientation consistent. Join and trim the center, then add both borders.
  4. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing, baste, and quilt as desired. Bind with the prepared Fabric F strips.
