Leading Lasso features a center of twenty-five appliqued boot blocks surrounded by a border of fifty pieced stars. Wendy Sheppard designed the 75-by-90-inch quilt with the Yippie Yi Yo Ki Yay collection by Laura Heine. The intermediate project includes boot and spur templates, reversed boots for selected positions, and flying geese units for the stars. Narrow and wider fabric borders separate the boot center from the star border and finish the outside of the quilt.

- Prepare the boot and spur templates, including the reversed pieces, and cut the background rectangles, star components and border strips.
- Arrange the boot and spur shapes on their backgrounds, applique and secure them with decorative stitching, then trim the twenty-five boot blocks.
- Make the flying geese units and combine them with squares to form fifty star blocks in the specified fabric combinations.
- Join the boot blocks into five rows, add the inner borders, assemble and attach the star border, then add the remaining borders.
- Layer the top with batting and backing, baste and quilt as desired, and bind the quilt with the specified strips.
