Description:

Milestone Mat (Terri Degenkolb) is a printed-panel project with a separate arrow marker. The finished mat measures 54 by 42 inches and is quilted with batting and backing before its edges are bound. The arrow is made from two fabric rectangles with batting between them, then stitched and trimmed with pinking shears. A full-size arrow template is supplied, and the instructions also describe making a single-layer wool-felt marker.

Milestone Mat (Terri Degenkolb) Free Quilt Pattern by Terri Degenkolb quilt pattern summary

  1. Trim the panel as instructed, then layer the panel, batting and backing. Baste and quilt the mat as desired.
  2. Use the B binding strips to finish the quilted panel’s edges. Reserve the small fabric and batting rectangles for the marker.
  3. Trace the arrow outline onto one fabric rectangle. Layer the other rectangle right side down with batting and the marked rectangle above it, then stitch on the outline.
  4. Cut the arrow through all three layers with pinking shears, leaving the specified allowance outside the stitches. Alternatively, cut a single felt layer using the same template.
