People Flourish Pillow Free Pattern by LJ Simon - Free Quilt Pattern
People Flourish Pillow features four appliqued girls whose hats are cut from flower-pot prints in the Flourish collection. LJ Simon designed the 13-by-19-inch pillow with embroidered faces and hairstyles, a narrow flat insert and mitered borders. Needle-turn applique shapes the figures, while straight stitches, chain stitches and French knots add their details. An overlapping fabric back encloses an oblong pillow form, and the instructions invite changes to expressions and hairstyles.

- Cut the garment and head templates, adding the seam allowances omitted from the templates. Fussy cut the flower-pot hats and prepare the pillow face, borders and back pieces.
- Turn under the applique edges and place the heads and necks, garments and hats on the white face. Use fusible web or fabric glue to hold the pieces, then sew them in place and embroider the hair and faces.
- Add the folded flat inserts and border strips, then sew the mitered corners. Fuse the woven interlining to the back of the completed pillow face.
- Hem and overlap the two backing pieces. Sew the pillow face and back right sides together, finish the seam edges, turn the cover and insert the oblong pillow form.
