Ribbon Tails arranges nine pieced cats with bow ties and curved-looking tails above gift-box units. The Cat Happy fabrics provide the prints for the cats, gifts and surrounding pieced border. Small squares and rectangles create the shaped details through diagonal corner seams, while strips separate the blocks into three rows. Several narrow borders frame the center and its pieced border before a wider outer border completes the 74.5 x 89.5-inch quilt.

Ribbon Tails Free Quilt Pattern by Wendy Sheppard quilt pattern summary
- Piece the cat ears, bow ties and neck units using diagonal corner seams and half-square triangles. Join these sections to make the cat heads.
- Shape the cat bodies and piece the separate tail sections, then join each head, body and tail. Make the gift-box units and sew them beneath the cats to complete the nine blocks.
- Join the blocks into three rows with sashing, then add the inner borders. Piece the rectangular outer-border sections and attach them before adding the remaining fabric borders.
- Layer the quilt top with batting and backing, baste and quilt as desired. Finish with the Fabric B binding strips.
