Uh oh, a spool is unraveling! Refresh and try again.
Description:

Split Stones combines four styles of pieced blocks with narrow sashing and small cornerstones in a quilt measuring 54 by 65 inches. Wendy Sheppard designed the intermediate project with Spotted Graffiti Vol. 2 fabrics by Marcia Derse. Some blocks divide larger fabric rectangles with a single contrasting strip, while others combine several smaller units. The blocks are arranged in six rows of five, with changes in rotation and fabric placement throughout the layout.

Split Stones Free Quilt Pattern by Wendy Sheppard quilt pattern summary

  1. Cut the rectangles, squares, sashing and cornerstones by fabric letter and block assignment, keeping the pieces for each block style separate.
  2. Piece the four block styles from their illustrated subunits, including the divided rectangles and the more detailed center-and-sashing units, then trim each block.
  3. Make the sashing rows with alternating strips and cornerstones. Arrange five blocks with sashing in each of the six block rows.
  4. Join the block and sashing rows in the illustrated order, checking the rotation of each block before completing the top.
  5. Layer the top with batting and backing, baste and quilt as desired, and bind with the fabric G strips.
