Stacked Up Free Quilt Pattern by Wendy Sheppard
Stacked Up surrounds a large printed center with successive borders, combining circular applique accents with a final frame of template-pieced blocks. Wendy Sheppard designed this 74 by 88 inch quilt for the Palette Stacks collection by Marcia Derse. Plain inner strips separate the different border treatments, while the outer blocks change direction around the quilt. The design includes separate corner blocks and full-size templates for the pieced outer frame.

Stacked Up Free Quilt Pattern by Wendy Sheppard quilt pattern summary
- Cut the center rectangle and the border pieces, keeping the fabric letters with each group. Print the outer-border templates at 100 percent before cutting their shapes.
- Build the first plain borders around the center, then applique the circles onto their background blocks. Join the circle blocks and corner pieces into the next border.
- Add the remaining narrow inner borders. Piece the outer Block A, Block B and corner units from the labeled templates, preserving the illustrated fabric placement.
- Join the outer blocks into side columns and top and bottom rows, then attach them around the quilt. Layer, baste and quilt the sandwich, and finish with the Fabric M binding.
