The Soldier's Wife Free Quilt Pattern by Evonne Cook
The Soldier's Wife combines twenty-four star blocks with twenty-four floral alternate blocks in a quilt finishing at 72 by 90 inches. Evonne Cook's design uses Wharton fabrics, including blue floral centers, brown floral star points and red pieced details. Four-patch units form parts of the stars, while the alternate blocks use corner triangles around their centers. Inner and outer borders surround the alternating block layout, and templates are supplied for the star-point construction.

- Cut the star and alternate-block pieces. Use the supplied star templates with their required seam allowance, or the named TriRecs tool option for those units.
- Sew the star-point units and strip-pieced four-patches, then assemble the star blocks with the background corners. Make the floral alternate blocks with their framed centers and corner triangles.
- Arrange the two block styles in the alternating layout and join the top. Measure through its center to fit and attach the inner borders, then repeat for the outer borders.
- Cut and join the red binding strips. Quilt the assembled top and finish the edges with the prepared binding.
